9.2.3 that節中が仮定法になる動詞
① wish Ａ to do Ａに～するように望む
I wish him to be polite. 私は彼が礼儀正しいことを望む。
= I wish (that) he were polite.
注意
would rather 「～してもらいたい」もthat節を従えるとその中は仮定法になる
I would rather you hadn’t told my parents the truth.
あなたには私の両親に真実を言ってもらいたくなかったのに。
9.3 第３文型や第４文型に書き換えられない動詞
9.3.1 受動態になる動詞
① permit Ａ to do Ａが～することを許可する
I can‘t permit her to smoke. 彼女が喫煙するのは黙認しがたい。
② cause Ａ to do Ａが～する原因となる
The rain caused the river to overflow. 雨のために川があふれた。
③ allow Ａ to do Ａが～することを許す
The teacher allowed him to go home. 先生は彼に家へ帰ることを許した。
④ get Ａ to do Ａに～させる してもらう
It was hard to get him to understand the situation.
彼に状況を理解させるのは難しかった。
注意
getは使役動詞と似た意味だが，目的格補語は原形不定詞ではない
