11.1 be助動詞 + 不定詞 を用いた表現
11.1.1 be + about to…「今～するところだ」

11.3 仮定法未来if …were to＋原形 仮定法未来「もし～するようなことがあると」〔フォーマル〕 be動詞が助動詞として考えられる形態
be +～ing 進行形 be +過去分詞 受動態
11.1 be助動詞 + 不定詞 を用いた表現
11.1.1 be + about to…「今～するところだ」
The meeting is just about to start. 今そろそろ会議が始まるところだ。
”be + not about to…”になると「〜する気は全くない」という表現になる。
I am not about to give up. あきらめる気は全くない。
11.1.2 be + bound / certain to…「必ず〜になる」「きっと〜する」
It was bound to happen sooner or later それは遅かれ早かれ必ず起こることだった。
11.1.3 be + sure to…
“be bound to” “be certain to”と同様の表現ができるが「必ず〜しなさい」という命令の用法もある。
Be sure to turn off the light before you leave the room.
退室する時に電気を消すのを忘れず。
11.1.4 be + due to… 「〜することになっている」「〜する予定である」 [堅]
He is due to return from London next week.
彼は来週ロンドンから戻ってくる予定です。
11.1.5 be + likely to…「〜しそうである」「〜になる可能性が高い」
It is likely to snow tomorrow. 明日は雪が降る可能性が高い。
11.1.6 be + supposed to 「〜しなければならない」「〜することになっている」
He is supposed to be here by 2pm. 彼は２時にここに来ることになっている。
11.1.7 be + obliged / obligated to「（義務として）〜しなければならない、〜せざるを得ない」
You are obliged to cooperate with customs inspection. [堅]
税関検査に協力しなければならない。
11.1.8 be meant to be 「〜するためにある」「〜するよう運命づけられている」、
Rules are meant to be broken. 規則は破られるためにある。 [慣用]
Claire is meant to be on a diet but she can’t stop eating chocolates.
クレアはダイエット中のはずだが、チョコレートを食べるよう運命づけられている 。
It was meant to be. そんな運命づけだった。
They were meant to be together. 我々は一緒になるよう運命づけられている。
”be + supposed to”(11-1-6参照)と同様の用法もある。
We are meant to be back by 9:00 p.m. 私たちは9時までに戻ることになっている。
= We are supposed to be back y 9:00 p.m.
11.2 be to＋原形の慣用表現
11.2.1 be to blame 「責められるべき (受動的)」 [堅]
You are to blame. = to be blamed 君が責められるべきだ。
I am not to blame. 私は責められるべきではない。
11.2.2 be to let 「貸される (受動的)」 イギリス英語
The house is to let. = to be let この家は貸される予定です。
11.3 仮定法未来if …were to＋原形 仮定法未来「もし～するようなことがあると」〔フォーマル〕
If I were to ask him, he would give me a million yen.
もしお願いするようなことがあると、100万円をくれます。
= If I should ask him, he would give me a million yen.
