The many had to labor for the few. 大多数が少数者のために働かなければならなかった。
※ a good many of ~ かなりたくさんの～
A good many of the students have bicycles. かなり多くの生徒が自転車を持っている。
9.3 much 「多くのもの」 不加算名詞として単数扱い = a lot
Much of what you say is true. 君の言うことの多くは本当だ。
We don’t think we can do much about this economic crisis.
この経済危機に多くのことができないと思っている。

9.4 few 「何人かの人[物・事] 加算名詞として複数扱い
A few of my friends have guitars. 数名の友人がギターを持っている。
So few came that we were unable to hold the meeting.
来た人があまりにも少なかったので会議が開けなかった。
※ fewにthe, these, thoseや所有格などがつく場合は肯定的な意味
She is among the few who really know it.
彼女はそれを本当に知っている数少ないうちの１人だ。
9.5 little 「少しのもの」 不加算名詞として単数扱い
I know a little about it. 私はそのことなら少しは知っている。
I've eaten little since yesterday. 昨日からほとんど何も食べていない。
Quite a few=many, quite a little=much/Only a few = few, only a little = little
most 最上級以外
9.6 通例無冠詞 大部分、大多数
most of 複数名詞の形は誤り
most＋名詞 = almost all＋名詞 「（限定されない）大半の…」
most of the＋名詞 = almost all (of ) the＋名詞 「（限定された特定の）…の大半」
most [ all, any, both, each, either, neither, none, some ] がofを従える時には、ofの後ろは
the/these/my/hisなど、複数名詞を限定する語が必要。
× Most of Japanese live on rice.
○ Most Japanese live on rice. ほとんどの日本人が米を主食としている。
× Most of boys like active sports.
○ Most of the boys like active sports.
○ Most boys like active sports. ほとんどの男の子は活動的なスポーツが好きだ。
most無冠詞 「たいていの人々」
He is more sensitive than most. 彼ほど神経質な人は少ない。
